In what is sure to be good news for local community groups, this month sees the launch of the 2024 Peppercorn Hill Community Fund.
An annual initiative of Dennis Family Corporation, Peppercorn Hill Estate’s developer, for the third year running eligible not-for-profit organisations operating in and around Donnybrook, Woodstock, Wollert and Craigieburn can apply for grants of $1,500, which will be assessed by an independent judging panel.
Last year 16 happy local community and not-for-profit groups received grants totalling $24,000. Included amongst them was Edgars Creek Primary School. For the School’s Wellbeing Leading Teacher, Sara Johns the $1,500 grant arrived at the perfect time.
With over 15 years of teaching experience behind her, Sara joined Edgars Creek Primary School almost 4 years ago. As her title suggests, a key focus of her role is supporting the wellbeing of the School’s children and their families, as well as building wellbeing capacity amongst staff, which also involves working closely with relevant external agencies.
“Our School opened at a very challenging time right at the outset of the pandemic. We’ve now grown to around 800 students, many of who come from a number of quite culturally diverse backgrounds, and we’re always looking for opportunities to bring children and their families together.”
“We used the grant to purchase a pie-warmer, which might seem like quite an innocuous item. But it’s been a very welcome and popular addition to our canteen kitchen. Not only has it enabled us to expand our catering offering – both for our students and community events, which has allowed us to strengthen connections within the wider school community, it’s also created more opportunities for us to raise much needed funds to support various programs and initiatives that directly benefit our children.
This year the School is applying for another grant. If successful, Sara says they plan to use the funds to put towards the purchase of an electronic sign which will be used to promote School events in multiple languages. “The pie-warmer has delivered such a positive impact for our students, and we can’t thank Dennis Family Corporation enough for their generosity. Fingers crossed, we’re successful again this year!”
Dennis Family Corporation is encouraging all eligible not for profit groups to apply to this year’s Fund, and now is definitely time to start thinking about lodging your submission.
