Preston Market, Preston

One of Melbourne's traditional markets, Preston Market is open from Wednesday through Sunday each week. More a community than a market, stalls ramble through a massive hall past a much-utilised piano at its centre, and out into the carpark. It’s a true Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Asian affair, with plenty of discount meat and flowers for haggling over, pho, doughnuts and tacos for eating, and street performers for the watching. There's world-famous paella (Gringo Paella has competed on the world stage), bargain hot jam doughnuts and Vinnie’s famous  pizza slices. Once you’re full, peruse the aisles and pick up fresh meat, veg and bread from Vincenzo and Rosa’s Bakery for your next week of meals.
